Each item of plant for which there is a CPCS category has an appropriate NVQ.

Red cards under the CITB/CPCS scheme have a lifespan of three years during which time the holder is expected to achieve the relevant NVQ.

For a red cardholder to upgrade to blue, and so be able to renew it the only route is by gaining the relevant NVQ and passing a touch screen test.

The NVQ is a nationally recognised qualification which is for life, it does not expire and so blue cards can then be easily renewed.
